25MW GRID-CONNECTED SOLAR PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM - TECHNICAL DESIGN

The need of humans comes in different aspects. And one of those is the need of electricity. Electricity is used to run equipment’s from large motors to small electronic gadgets. Electricity has been a part of human lives. But considering the current scenario, the issue of the shortage of power is now arising especially in Mindanao. Energy demand is increasing day by day due to increase of population, industrialization and urbanization. Also, the common sources of energy such as coal and natural gas will deplete in the coming hundreds of years. However, there is a possible solution for this issue. It is the use of renewable energies. This renewable energies are common nowadays since many of the countries worldwide are using it and even in the developing countries. Renewable energies is an energy source that we can use over and over again and does not run out. Common renewable energies are the solar, biomass, wind, geothermal and hydro. This source of energy has to be developed to meet the future energy requirement.

One of the renewable energy that is commonly used nowadays is the Solar Photovoltaic which uses sun’s light to produce electricity that is also an environment friendly while operating since it does not emits greenhouse gasses. Solar power is becoming a widely accepted technology.

This study is made for the design of a solar photovoltaic which would produce 25MW of power for the proposed University of Science and Technology of the Philippines located at Lourdes Alubijid, Misamis Oriental. The whole campus has a total area of 300 hectares consisting of

5 industries, an administration building, academic building, a research laboratory, exposition center, student and staff dormitory, commercial and hotel establishment, and a government center. The campus would be the first school in the Philippines that has a renewable energy that produces large amount of power.
